A zinc and aluminum castings manufacturer executed an ECRA subject transaction requiring an environmental site investigation and subsequent remediation. Contaminated soils containing metal pollutants and PCBs were detected. Site investigation and remedial work had been conducted intermittently over a 3½ year period by a previously retained environmental consulting firm. To obtain an expedited case closure, EMC was retained to complete the required site investigation, conduct necessary remedial actions and direct agency communications. Through EMC’s management, the property received a Brownfields designation from the State of New Jersey. Consequently, a tax reimbursement program was established that is paying back the owners 75 percent of their environmental expenses.
